STEPHANIE JOE is passionate about inspiring others through artistic expression, creating reflective experiences, and opening avenues for honest dialogue through the arts.

Born in Houston, Texas, Stephanie trained pre-professionally at the Houston Ballet Academy and had the opportunity to perform with Houston Ballet and Houston Ballet II. She spent summers training on merit scholarships with Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet School (New York City), and also attended the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Summer Program and Boston Ballet’s Choreographic Intensive.

In 2016, Stephanie joined Chicago-based Ballet 5:8, touring across the US performing the company’s original repertoire. She was promoted to Solo Artist in 2017 and to Lead Artist in 2018, and was featured in soloist and principal roles in Ballet 5:8’s repertoire, including The Space in Between (a one-act contemporary ballet inspired by C.S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce), Four Seasons of the Soul, Compass, and full-length ballet/film hybrid Scarlet (inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel The Scarlet Letter).

Stephanie joined Singapore Ballet (formerly Singapore Dance Theatre) as an Artist in September 2019. Since then, she has been featured in Dark Waves by Natalie Weir, Quiver by Tim Rushton, After Happy Ever by Alice Topp, Faux Contact by Etienne Ferrère, Purcell Pieces (Fairest Isle solo) by Nils Christe, and as Stepsister Mina in Cinderella by Janek Schergen. Stephanie has also performed Serenade by George Balanchine, Fives, Momentum, In the Glow of the Night, Birds of Paradise, and Schubert Symphony by Choo San Goh, and Linea Adora by Timothy Harbour, 4Seasons by Natalie Weir, Opus 25 by Edwaard Liang, along with the classic ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, and The Nutcracker. Stephanie has also enjoyed performing in the original cast for new creations at Singapore Ballet, including Without You by Tim Rushton, Protecting Veil by Timothy Harbour, Rite of Spring by Kinsun Chan, Family Reunion by Lucas Jervies, zer0 by Rachel Lum, Liddat Oso Can by Naomi Tan, and The First Assembly by Zoe Jumabhoy. Stephanie was promoted to Demi-Soloist in January 2024.

Stephanie has taught ballet to dancers of all ages and levels of experience across the US, and has served as an instructor for Ballet 5:8’s Trainee Program, School of the Arts, and Summer Intensive. She enjoys coaching ballet dancers with an emphasis on genuine artistry, precise technique, and dynamic musicality and energy.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University where she pursued interdisciplinary studies in dance, business, and design, graduating cum laude with distinction in dance. During her time at Duke, she choreographed several main stage works including ...yet there is hope (2013), hear | here (2014), [be]yond (2015), and - at present - (2016). In 2013, Stephanie co-founded Duke Ballet Company (now Devils en Pointe), the university’s first student-run ballet company, and served as artistic director, ballet mistress, and resident choreographer through 2016.
